These awards recognize outstanding course materials in two categories, Video & Multimedia and Text & Illustrations. Five awards will be given in each category.

Delft Design Guide received the award in the Text & Illustrations category.

The Delft Design Guide presents an overview of product design approaches and methods used in the Bachelor and Master curriculum at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering in Delft.

Introduction to Aerospace Engineering I received the award in the category Video & Multimedia.

This first part of the course Introduction to Aerospace Engineering presents an overall picture of the aeronautics domain. This overview involves a number of different perspectives on the aerospace domain, and shows some basic principles of the most important concepts for flight. Then the basic aerodynamics are covered, followed by flight mechanics.

This part of the course Introduction to Aerospace Engineering is focused on two aerospace disciplines: “space and orbital mechanics” and “structures and materials”. These topics are discussed in detail and will provide an understanding for both aircraft and for spacecraft/space missions.
Study Goals:
-List/describe the reasons for going into space and the principles of rockets, including their trajectories.
- Motivate the selection of spacecraft configurations depending on the mission and identify the main elements of a satellite.
- Describe the features of the space environment and their consequences for space activities.
- Determine elementary satellite orbits, transfer orbits and maneuvers
- Describe and work with elementary space propulsion aspects: launch, velocity budget and rocket equation
- List the characteristics of typical aerospace materials & structures and describe their meaning and relevance
- List the main structural elements of an aerospace vehicle and describe their functions and performance.

This course is an introduction to measurement technology and describes the theoretical foundations and practical examples of measurement systems. The analyzing of measurements problems and specifying of measurements systems are the main subjects that are treated in this course, where the main focus will be on the different kind of measurement errors and the concept of uncertainty in measurement results. Electronic measurement instrumentation will be introduced; a number of conventional sensors for the measurement of non-electronic variables will be described, as well as electronic circuits for the reading of the sensors.

Architecture students use a lot of software in design projects during their study at the TU Delft. To present BSc students with a solid base concerning the use of ICT within the architectural domain, the Design Informatics chair of the Faculty of Architecture offers several course materials, tutorials and software documentation related to the application of ICT in Architecture, Design and education for free via the digital repository of TOI-Pedia. TU Delft OpenCourseWare now presents links to these constantly updated tutorials. We do not provide the software or licenses to the software though; you can obtain the software through the appropriate channels.

Rond de kwaliteit van open digitale leermaterialen in hoger onderwijs zijn er veel vragen. Hoe vind je kwalitatief hoogwaardig digitaal leermateriaal?

Om daar meer inzicht over te krijgen, vraagt SURF OER aan docenten, ICTO-medewerkers om mee te doen aan een survey: Onder de invullers wordt een aantal cadeaubonnen verloot. Onderaan dit bericht vind je de URL naar de survey.

Hoe beoordeel je als gebruiker de kwalteit van open digitaal leermateriaal? Hoe kan de kwaliteit van digitale leermaterialen zichbaar worden gemaakt voor gebruikers? Zij er kwaliteitscriteria voor open digitaal leermateriaal vast te stellen? Antwoorden vinden op deze vragen zal het gebruiken van open digitale leermaterialen bevorderen.

Deze survey is bedoeld om inzicht te krijgen in wijzen waarop naar digitaal leermateriaal wordt gezocht, welke kwaliteitsfactoren daarbij een rol spelen en welke problemen daarbij ervaren worden. De resultaten van deze survey zullen worden gebruikt voor activiteiten die moeten leiden tot hoger kwaliteit van open digitale leermaterialen en daardoor meer gebruik ervan.

The Netherlands are the host country of the event that marks the International celebration of World Water Day.

If this is not enough for you, our Delft-based colleagues from UNESCO-IHE have also recently started publishing OpenCourseWare on Hydraulic and Environmental engineering.

• Student discussions

Together with some 50 students we debated the value of open education for the TU Delft, a theme that also inspired our discussion with the TU Delft Honours Students the week before.

• Launch of Open.tudelft.nl

The kick-off for our Open Education week was the launch of open.tudelft.nl on Monday 11^th of March, showcasing all open initiatives TU Delft has to offer in Education, Research and ICT.

• OpenCourseWare for Innovative Weather Sensing

The launch of open.tudelft.nl was followed by the publication of a package of courses to support African universities in the design competition for a low-cost weather station.

• Open Education event

On Wednesday the Dutch higher education sector gathered in Utrecht, to celebrate the publication of the Trendrapport on Open Educational Resources. The day was chaired by our Vice President of Education, Paul Rullman while Anka Mulder, secretary of the university, was one of the speakers at the Open Education Event

• Presentations for TU Delft staff

Furthermore, we have been welcomed at several faculties to share the possibilities of Open Education with our TU Delft teaching staff. This is something we will continue in the coming year in order to spread the word on open education, inside and outside of our campus!

We’ve enjoyed all the positive interactions and reactions we had during the Open Education Week, and will certainly contribute to next year’s Open Education Week.

TAHMO stands for Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory Project. We now offer several courses that relate to this inspiring project in order to support the African universities that partake in the sensor design competition, but of course also for everyone else interested in the topic.

Open.TUDelft.nl

Next to Open Education TU Delft offers more open initiatives for the world to see and use. To show what our university has to offer, open.tudelft.nl was launched. This website provides a showcase of open education, Open Research and Open ICT initiatives.

Dit vak gaat in op het hoe te doen van typische metingen op het vakgebied van gezondheidstechniek (waterkwaliteit), hydrologie, waterbeheer, waterbouw en vloeistofmechanica (waterkwantiteit).

Onderdelen hierin zijn: het herkennen van de relevante parameters, leren over meetmethodes, meetapparatuur, nauwkeurigheid, opstellen van een meetplan, veiligheid, het zelf doen van metingen (laboratorium e/o in het veld) en bewerken en verwerken van gegevens.

In een workshop wordt er geleerd met beschikbare electronica componenten een eigen meetsensor te bouwen.

Leerdoelen

- In staat zijn aan te geven welke parameters van belang zijn bij een bepaald proces

- In staat zijn aan te geven hoe de parameters gemeten kunnen worden

- Geschikte meetapparatuur kunnen kiezen
